I am currently employed by a home health agency as their Infusion Therapy Clinical Manager. I just recently developed their IV team due to the increasing acquity of our patients upon discharge from the hospital. As an IV nurse we require IV skilss but then train our nursing staff on Midline/PICC insertion and like them to work toward becoming a CRNI. We also have a Maternal/Child office which provides care to expectant mothers and newborn and anyone under the age of 18. They are required to possess Pediatric skills but no certifications as of yet. I have been in Home health for 10 years now and no one could pay me enough to go back to the hospital. The freedom and independance this area allows a nurse is wonderful. I have at times told the doctor what we should do since we are his eyes and ears out there daily. But, I would never suggest a new grad do this without Med/Surg experience within the hospital setting and an extremely stong background in organizational skills. But most importantly the love of writing to comnplete the endless mounds of paperwork. I can live with the paperwork it isn't so bad after you get the flow of it down. Hope this helps.
