Hello guys! I have been accepted into Columbus State University's FNP program for Jan 2017 start date. However, I have found that they have mandatory testing dates that may interfere with my schedule. Just as a backup I looked at south university's online program. I see that for the most part there are very few tests involved with this program. I am excellent at papers and discussions and can learn on my own without much prompting. Any advice? Anyone in either program? I would love to hear the pros and cons, length of the adult or fnp program, costs, and flexibility. I am in georgia so hopefully I would qualify for in state tuition. Thanks in advance!

OP:

With all due respect but what rock did you just recently emerge from? Please forgive my bluntness.

I'll get to the point.

If you go to (collegescorecard.ed.gov) and put into the search engine South University Online Savannah you will find that they have a six year graduation rate of 2%.

That means that of the thousands of suckers who enrolled in that program over a six year period only 2% actually graduated.

The startling figure I quote was supplied to the Department of Education by EDMC the parent company of South University themselves.

I hope this helps you make a judicious educational decision now and in the future.

I believe you should do some more research on South University before committing to anything. They are a private for-profit school. Few exams, a poor graduation rate (another poster is correct, the overall graduation rate appears to be 2%), and high tuition cost indicates that this program may not be the best choice. It sounds like you need some flexibility in your master's program. That's a perfectly reasonable thing. However, there are many flexible programs out there with higher graduation rates and lower cost. Best of luck with your decision. :nurse:

Thanks for your input. I decided to stay with Columbus State University. I'll just have to work my schedule around it. It'll be worth it in the long run I'm sure. Thanks again!

I love your posts, even though most others dont because it hurts their "feels."

Obviously the OP has lots of feels if he or she is insulted by you stating statistics of a program which has a dismal reputation and graduation rate. But hey why ask a question if you dont want the answer? I mean thats basically level 10 foolishness to be like "omg you insulted me and my school and my big dreams of being an NP"

to OP: they are trying to save you from wasting time and money on a crappy school and education. If you dont want to listen though that is fine, we wont be the ones with 6 figure debt crying because we cant pass the board exam or find a job.

I mean really, you want to attend a school with a 2% graduation rate? Really? Why not just play the lottery at least those tickets only cost a few bucks and you dont have to write APA style papers.

You will do very well at a school like Columbus State! It is very mature of you to look past some of the less than kind remarks. That will serve you well as a nurse practitioner. Congratulations on your decision!
