I think every future nurse (and doc, for that matter) should work as a CNA. I was in retail management in a formal life, and I would never ask an employee to do something I wouldn't do. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would, and I am really glad I had the experience.
Not only does it give you an appreciation for each member of the nursing team, but working as a CNA goes a long way towards ridding a new student nurse of her/his jitters. I haven't actually started clinicals yet, but I feel really comfy around patients, so I don't think I'll be too freaked out.
Have fun!

Hi, I'm a 32 yr old mother of two, who is done with my pre-requs and has decided to put nursing school off for a year until my youngest is in first grade. Half-day kindergarten can make sceduales difficult. I was really bummed about making that decision, because I've been working towards this for almost three years. Plus, I'm so worried that I'm forgetting all my anatomy-physiology. So I've decided to get my CNA this summer, and I'm actually pretty exited about it. If I can't be in nursing school right now, this is the next best thing! Has anyone else gone this route, and what did you think?
