Soon to be nurse

Published

Hi!

I have decided to go to school as a nurse and was wondering what I can do to be prepared for when school starts (such as important info, good books to read, good study techniques, etc). I am currently laid off so I have nothing but time before my program starts!

Thanks :)

Study A&p excessively. There are good courses through Coursera and other free options. Pretty much everyone says during nursing school says they wish they'd had a better a&p foundation prior.

Brush up on your basic algebra (if you haven't taken math in a few years). Get real familiar with your A&P. I also downloaded an NCLEX practice question app about 6 months before school and did a bunch of practice questions every day even though I had no real nursing knowledge base. The questions helped to hone my critical thinking skills and got me used to the SATA/every answer is right format so I was at a big advantage over a lot of my classmates in that department when school actually started.
