soon to be new grad

Published

-I am an ADN student, and I will graduate in May. Although I've had wonderful clinical experiences and wonderful staff to work with, I'm so worried about the staff being impatient with me because of my lack of experience. I'm sure it is normal to feel like this, but I can't help but think that some nurses forget they were new graduates once upon a time. How do I best cope with impatient staff, if that be the case where I choose to work? You're replies would be appreciated!:p

Hi there ! Welcome to Allnurses ! :)

Relax.... you are correct in saying that most of us have felt the same way.. many (including me) still do.

MOST nurses understand your fears and feelings and remember well how THEY felt in your shoes. At really busy and stressful times, they may forget, and some might come across wrong, but that's merely due to the situation at hand. Don't take it personally.

Do the very best you can, and know that you ARE doing your best.. that's all that matters. Don't allow anyone else's impatience to bother or hurry you...don't let any negative vibes get to you and spoil your enjoyment nor your attempts to carry out all you've spent so long learning and achieving.

Don't be afraid to ask questions when unsure... and IF anyone has a problem with that (and most do NOT!)... then consider this:

which problem would you prefer... an impatient glance by a colleague or possibly harming your patient ? ;)

You'll be FINE... just know that you're doing your best and be proud of it ! :kiss
