  1. I recently cared for an patient who overdosed on glucophage and ambien and came to the hospital dizzy and vomiting. When she came to the floor, the vomiting had subsided, but she was still extremely dizzy and complained of a headache. Her reasoning for overdosing was conflicts with her daughter. She seemed to be pretty attention hungry, although I know we're not supposed to judge anyone like that. I just need feedback as to how much sympathy we should provide to these patients. I want to be a good caregiver, but I don't want to encourage future overdosing or make them think that what they did was okay. Your feedback would be appreciated.
  2. I am a soon-to-be new graduate, and I have a job lined up to be a staff nurse in a small 7-bed ER. I know we are encouraged to start in med/surg, but I have decided to work ER. Anyway, I am kind of nervous and I would like feedback from anyone who works ER. Maybe let me know what to expect and how to prepare myself. They offer a great training program, but I'm still nervous!:rotfl:
  3. I was recently caring for an elderly confused patient. He had some po medications we needed to get down him, and he kept spitting them back at us. We tried everything, including dissolving them in applesauce and ice cream, but nothing would work. Well, eventually he cooperated, but what should I have done differently? Are there any techniques or advice you have for me? Your responses would be appreciated.
  4. -I am an ADN student, and I will graduate in May. Although I've had wonderful clinical experiences and wonderful staff to work with, I'm so worried about the staff being impatient with me because of my lack of experience. I'm sure it is normal to feel like this, but I can't help but think that some nurses forget they were new graduates once upon a time. How do I best cope with impatient staff, if that be the case where I choose to work? You're replies would be appreciated!
