SONOGRAPHY

Published

Hello All

I am currently in school and getting my remedial classes out of the way and am enrolled in nursing. However I think I am changing my mind to be a sonographer. I live in NYC and believe it or not can not find ANY schools here... ?? Is this something that is hard to find training for? I am so confused, I know one school Sanford- Brown everyone says do not go, it's not accredited. I saw something online there were 3 options for radiology programs. 1)Hospital Certificate Program (they are NOT going to do that in NY, I can tell you that for sure) @) 2 yr associate degree (but from WHERE???!) 3.) 4 year bach, (obviously to follow)

HELP!!

Radiology is not sonography. One is X-Rays, one is sonograms. I would start by checking programs at local community colleges, especially if there are any health science oriented campuses.

I meant sonography only....oops---yeah I been doing that, there's nothing in nyc that's what I was asking the forum

you might also contact hospitals to ask them what schools they would hire a graduate of.

The American registry for diagnostic medical sonography (ARDMS) is the place to look for information about ultrasound imaging. ARDMS adminsters the certification exams. The ARDMS website contains a wealth of information including a link to accredited programs. http://www.ardms.org/default.asp?ContentID=29

Medical sonography is a physics and anatomy intensive program. I am not sure what remedial classes you are currently taking, but if you are taking physics and anatomy and you are getting above average marks in these subjects, than you will likely be comfortable taking the sonography courses. On the other hand, if you are not taking these subjects or are getting below average marks, you will likely struggle with the sonography courses, so you may want to look into ways to strengthen your knowledge in these areas.
