i've decided since the weather is nice today i'm going to clean out my truck. you fellow hh nurses know only too well that we drag an entire supply room around with us everywhere we go. i got to thinking "gee i really never use any of that stuff". when i get my assignment i know ahead of time what to grab, i do so and charge it. i think i'll go down to the bear minimum. a few dressing supplies, a cath or two, and extra cath bag or two, fleets enema, enema bag, a couple of blood draw kits, tubes and urine cups.
do tell... how do you handle all the supplies? do you actually use them?
My car is surprisingly clean. The trunk is another story. I have a big Rubbermaid Bin of stuff that I normally keep well organized in big ziploc bags. But after a week, all the bags are opened, random other bags of stuff are thrown in. I also have a milk crate back there to help with keeping my boxes of gloves and plastic bags I take in for dressing chages, etc. That gets trashed, too. Oh, and I have admit packets in a tiny corner of the trunk.

Just saw an awesome new thing in the auto section at Walmart when I was in the auto parts section with my teen boys, there is a front seat organizer that buckles in that looks awesome kind of like the floor travel organizers), has a file section, supply section and even a place to sit a coffee thermos, it is easily unbuckled to place in your trunk when you need to put a passenger in the front seat, also collapsible and easy to carry. No more file folders crashing to the floor when someone in front of you stops suddenly, I would have bought 10 if I had stilll been in the field doing patient care, it is exactly the thing I was looking for 3 years ago as a case manager!! Just wanted to pass it on to maybe make someone's life easier.
