So, I had my interview in OB today....

She told me all about the facility-level 3 unit, take transfer patients from all over, recent nicu expansion that = more labor pt's, more sick pt's, do have an OB ICU, (for moms on vents or moms needing cardiac monitoring), talked about cross training to OB OR or OB PACU, and OB PACU has to have ACLS, which i have.

standard 10 week orientation, very scheduled, with scheduled readings, etc etc, but customizable to need. high risk antepartum about 1:3 or 1:4, laboring pt's 1:1.

Sounds like a great unit- I have been a nurse for a year, in the same hospital, but different unit. She has 4 night positions open-at the end of the dreaded behavioral interview (lol, it wasn't that bad), she said she had 6 more people to interview this week (i'm thinking darn, darn darn!) she said she was prepared to offer me a job right there. :balloons:

yay! So after my 30 days notice to current manager, I will be an official OB nurse on August 27!

yay!

now i really have to study up on my OB

OH, and they do therapeutic abortions, for serious incompatible with life defects, and I was told that all people sign a sheet saying whether or not htey would be willing to work with these pt's, its all private and no one knows who doesn't have to know.

That's not an issue for me, but i remember that being discussed before.

Congrats!!

I'm a couple of weeks into my orientation and I wish it were much more scheduled. I have some orientation papers that the manager gave me but it doesn't correlate one iota with what I'm doing.

Sounds like you will get to experience a lot there! :)

My orientation book is a huge 3 ring binder full of orientation schedule, policies and procedures to read, samples of standard order sets, etc. it was huge.
