And now I don't know what to do! The hospital where I want to work requires (of new grads) a cover letter stating which unit(s) you want to work in, a resume, transcripts, and two letters of recommendation. Which I gave them this past Monday. I was told by the receptionist in HR that "someone will call". So now it's Friday and I haven't heard a thing. What do I do? Do I call HR? If I do, what do I say? I'm ashamed to say this is the first job I've ever really applied for, at least where I wasn't friends with the manager and thus a sure thing.

the only thing you can do is wait, and perhaps send out a few more applications to other hospitals. i wouldn't expect HR to move quickly, since they typically don't.

Be assertive, call back; let them know that you want to work there. HR people love to have their ego stroked; tell them how great they are and that's why you want to work there -- sell yourself, sell yourself, sell yourself.

Good advice! I would check back . If you have the name of
contact person at HR for nurses keep your communications
focused to that person.
Or as my friend used to say, don't get lost in the Bermuda Triangle
of personnel. :roll
