So when can I apply?

Published

Hello,

I am a prenursing student.

Heres what I have taken so far;

fall 2005 - Calculus 1 (A) Chemistry 1 (A-) History 1 (A) English 1 (A) Military science elective (A) for 16 credit hours total

Spring 2006 - EMT-Basic (A) English 2 (A) Psychology (A) History 2 (A) Statistics (A) for 18 credit hours total

This summer I am taking A&P 1 and 2 for 8 hours total.

I have 29 prereq hours to finish fall 06 and spring 07.

Heres my question;

Many of the BSN programs I am applying to require 40 out of 60 prereqs to apply. Does that mean 40 out of 60 must be completed before you are accepted? (assuming you are enrolled in the rest of the courses in the spring 2007)? or does it mean you must complete 40, then apply?

Another thing to this is that I will have really only completed 32 credit hours or THEIR LISTED PREREQs if I apply would during the fall 2006. Whats the deal with this? Do I need to wait until december 2006 to apply? the deadline is in january!

The school I applied to has pre-reqs, and you can apply before you are done with them, but you have to have them all done before the program starts.

I had to fill out an academic plan showing which courses I plan on taking in which semesters. At my interview I had to sign a paper stating I am aware of the classes I need to complete and pass with a 2.5 or better before starting the program in Jan '07.

Every program is different so you are probably better off to meet with a counselor or call the school. I would do it soon because alot of programs have application deadlines a good while before the program begins.

Good Luck! I hope this helped.

I'm sure it varies with each school but in most cases they want you to have at least 40 completed by the time you apply and 60 before the program begins. At my school I know you have a better chance of getting in with all 60 completed than with just the 40. They give you more points towards getting in when you have more of your classes completed. You have a wonderful GPA though, I would just apply and see. Also my school goes by science GPA as well so if you have more of your science classes done you are better off. I would also meet with a school counselor and see what exactly your nursing program requires. Good Luck!
