Oh my gosh, yes.
The hardest part is convincing our patients that it isn't strep, it isn't the flu, it's ALLERGIES. They all want atbx to fix them lol.
The other hard part is the biggest insurer in town has gone to not paying for any allegra, zyrtec, or claritin.

Not yet, it's still a wee bit too cold for allergies here. But we are starting the allergy shots.
Laura.. How cold is it right now in Canada?
We walked the dog today in just a sweater .. about 58 here .. sometimes I love the south... :)
And how do ya'll go about convincing them they DO NOT need ABX?
we have people leave the office really angry that they have not been given at least a Zpak..I say a few more years of all the overprescribing of ABX and we are not going to have the big guns when we need them
Do your docs RX much Levaquin? We have people come in asking for it as if it is Tylenol..it is crazy .
We are also having the problem with the antihistamaines and RX coverage and no one wants to spend thier $$ on OTC Claritin.. I say buy the Claritin send the bill to your insurance company!!
just my little rant for the day..
I am on my way to the gymn ..two of my three young adults came home this week end and I ate like a piggie..you know M&Ms and Craniuim ganes etc
I better go work it off!!
Hope you are having a good week end!!~r Thanks for listening!!

we haven't seen too much allergy problems yet, but still the usual sinusitis and occasional bronchitis. Just had a patient yesterday dx'd with pneumonia, 40'ish and very sick. Doctor almost sent him to the hospital.
We seem to give quite a few allergy shots all throughout the year.
HI TJN
I was a little surprised to hear about the 40sh person with a pneumonia
What state are you in?
I am in TN and this year we have had more fortyish and fifitiesh people with pnuemo than older people..I wonder if it because the older ones are getting pneumo shots or that they are being very cautious about where they go and what they do this year?

Hi Darla,
We live in PA. Yes, it was surprising to see that dx. He hadn't been seen for over 2 years, so definitely not a frequent flyer. Hope he recuperates soon, as he was pretty miserable!
I grew up in PA..near Erie... my family is still in the area... they have had a snowy winter.. how about you?

We're actually starting our "February Thaw". It's a gloriously balmy 9C here....(~48F) but the nights are still cold, usually below freezing. (around -3 to -6 or 26 to 21F. That, BTW is PERFECT maple syrup weather! ) Actually, earlier this month it was really cold here...we were hitting highs of -15C to -20C (5F to -4F) I'm sooo ready for the spring.
I don't anymore...I leave it up to the doc. :chuckle It's true. I'm tired of people arguing with me about that. I'll go into my spiel about viral vs bacterial infections and how they are treated only to watch my words go in one ear, rattle around in their skulls a bit and come out the other!
Levaquin? Heck! We have drug reps that regularly leave us TONS of ABX samples for us to use. You name it, we have it....Levaquin, Zithromax, Avelox, Ketek, Cefzil and Biaxin. They go fast too.
