snf to acute rehab?

As I have mentioned, I would like to get a position in a hospital. Ive got tons of SNF experience and am holding a good steady job at my current place .

I don't want to end up applying for hundreds of jobs , but I am applying for a nearby medical unit soon.

If I get it , sweet ! If not, Im gonna rethink my game plan. (I won't get into the details of my "game plan" though .)

one plan B is to do a bit of time in acute rehab just to get some more skills and just for a change of workplace. (The grass isn't greener but I would like different grass !)

I hear that's a really hard environment to work in though , harder than med surg even ..

do you think it would be wise to stay in my current position and wait for the hospital job ? Is acute rehab a good stepping stone , will it help my chances or do you think ill get stuck because it's still rehab ? (I would probably give them at least a year or enough to make their training worth it, it's just not a final destination )

I think it would be easier to transition to a medical unit from acute rehab versus a SNF. To me, acute rehab is just med-surg with three hours of therapy on top. We're having to take sicker and sicker patients in order to meet CMS requirements. It can be hard and extremely overwhelming at first since there are multiple doctors and therapy disciplines involved in a patient's care, but if you're good at time management and organization, you'll do well. You might even love it and stay more than a year ;-)

My boss told me my time management is excellent today ! That was the first time in my career as when I started that was a very lacking area . Do you like working acute rehab?
