Looks like I'm following you around :chuckle

Anyway, I don't really know anything about the accelerated program...I've been looking at info on the master's program. I have a year to go until I get my BSN, but want to immediately get working on my master's when i'm done. Looks like I will have to wait until spring of '07....I was really hoping for fall of '06, but secondary to my occ laziness ,one of the courses I need and have to take last will be given from may to aug...so i won't grad until oct.

I know we have shared some laughs re la vs fla....where do you live??? I'm in mandeville (originally life long slidellian)

Good Lord, a stalker! So, are you taking classes in Hammond or in Baton Rouge? Do you know of anyone in the accelerated program, because I haven't met any?

Mandeville is a nice place. My sister used to live there. I'm in BR.

I'm doing the RN to BSN through Excelsior College....I don't know anyone who has done the accelerated program through them.

Dear Gottago,

I have a few friends at william carey college in NO that transferred out of SLU. They said that they left because it was a ridiculously hard curriculum that expected too much and gave you nothing. So they came to William Carey to get the same degree BSN (in 18 months) with the same advanced curriculum but got out of the school what they are putting in to it and we are graduating in Feb 06. Hope that helps!! Good luck. Because regardless where you go you are going to need it!! :)

Might be meeting you soon, Lakeview Regional Med Ctr in Mandeville, is one of your clinical areas! I work there....

Good luck in nursing school. SLU is hard, but the students are very "seasoned" upon graduation. I bridged from the LPN- RN program from Excelsior.

Lemme know if I can help. Laura:)

I work for Guardian Home Health...I was reading about the child care thing they were making over there...that's a wonderful thing to have on site. Please explain what you mean by "ridiculously hard". I'm curious as to what you have heard. I've heard various opinions and one more is certainly welcome.

Dear GOTTAGO,

What wa meant by ridiculously hard was that the acyually nursing staff do not really care 2 bits about there students. When certain Life unexpected problems happen (i.e. death in the family (immediate) they gave them no time for that and said that if you did not stay in the classes or miss any duee to this event then they were going to fail them. You just never know what type of things life is going to throw at you. So if they had not withdrew from the program and transferred out they would be still waiting to graduate. But instead they are seniors with me about to finish in spring 06. Just becareful who you think your instructor friends are, becasue when it comes down to it you are just another number to them ( not a person). Hope this helps!! and Good luck!!! :wink2:

i went to slu in hammond's nursing school. i've heard about other nursing programs, and how hard they are...etc. to be honest with you, i'd rather serve hard time than go back through slu's program again. good luck to anyone who does. i had a 3.8 gpa before i started and was in a class of 84. when i graduated, i had a gpa of 3.2 and had a class of 45. there are maybe 2-5 instructors who give a damn about you and you ever becoming a nurse. the rest are just a shade shy of being completely demonic. sorry i couldn't be more cheerful, hope this helps.... and good luck.-

 Demonic? Interesting. I've dealt with instructors who don't care, and that's fine with me since there are very few I care for either.

Beside the demonic instructors, what did you find difficult about the program (certain classes, clinicals, etc.)? Also, where did you do your clinicals? I'm curious if the clinical sites are spread out, or can you do them in Baton Rouge or New Orleans, exclusively.

Why would you say your gpa dropped?

I go to SLU's NS. Yeah, it is hard, but I feel like we're learning alot. I don't have any other experience to compare it to, but the nurses where we have clinicals are always very impressed by our knowledge (compared to students from other schools). The first 2 semesters of actual nursing school is in Hammond and the last 3 are in BR. Clinicals are pretty much all BR, with the exception of psych, which could be in Mandeville. People in the accelerated program go every semester (including summer) and graduate in December (wheras those in the normal program who start at the same time graduate in May). Of course if they start in the Fall this is different...
