Anyone out there applying to the Summer term 2012 nursing program at St John's? I am applying and am really nervous! Just figured I would start a thread to see if anyone else was! :) What do you think the average points are for getting in?

Hi s.marie333,

I am also applying for the upcoming summer term to be held at the OP campus. Not sure what the average points would be this round, as it changes each enrollment period. But, the key is to make sure you have as many possible upon applying. Tasks such as completing the Professions of Caring and even getting your CNA liscensure would give you a 10 point edge over someone who chose not to. I'm applying with 154 points and praying that is enough!!! Good luck and who knows, maybe we will be classmates soon!! Take care

I have 154 points as well! LOL...hopefully that is enough! I don't have my CNA certification and I don't really have time to get it.

I am applying for summer term at SJR State also. Getting anxious to turn in my application. Looks like from previous posts we should know by the middle of March whether we are in or not. I am in category 1 with a 3.82 GPA and 156 points. Hopefully this is enough to get in! Wish you both luck :)

Hi AllyB626,I also fall in category 1 but have a 3.7 gpa. It will be interesting to find out the cut off points this round. I am located in Palatka it would be way more convenient for me to wait until August and apply for the Palatka based program. But, if I am selected for the OP program, I will just have to suck it up and make that commute because I really want to do my clinicals in North Fl and hopefully get on permanent at one of the sites. Good luck to you!

Palatka is definitely a drive. I had to take my HESI there and spent more time driving there and back than actually taking the test! With the program already being 5 semesters, I don't blame you for wanting to start as soon as possible. I don't think I could wait until fall knowing I had my prerequisites done either.

I turned in my application on Thursday. I actually have 163 points because I forgot to add the ones from SJR State classes. Feeling pretty confident, but nervous still. One of the ladies in the office told me over the summer they have never had a class full of category 1 students, so hopefully we will all get in :)

Hello all, I have applied for Summer 2012. I am in CAT 2... I got an 84.57 on the hesi..... thats including A&P.. I read in another thread that they might not include A&P... is this correct? I will be mailing my application tomorrow! I am also waiting to hear back from UNF.

Hi AllyB626 and Hrobertson,

Best of luck to the both of you. AllyB626, you might as well go ahead and begin buying your supplies!!! I turned in my application on Tuesday; I met with the Workforce representative regarding the WIA grant for students accepted into the nursing program. Are you all familiar with that? If not, I highly recommend talking with a representative. The grant pays for all of your nursing related supplies, books, tuition. But the catch is, you have to be accepted into the program before you can apply.

Hrobertson, sjrsc does not include a&p as part of the hesi test score needed for their program, only your english and math scores. Also, if your scores are close enough to put you in a higher category, they will round up for you. I know this because my reading composite score was a 84.98 and they rounded up which made me a category 1 applicant, otherwise I would of fell into a category 2 even though my math was 93.59% Not sure how much rounding they are willing to do but anyone who falls short and rounding can help, it won't hurt to call and ask. Now the hard part... playing this waiting game. I am so ready to begin class!!

Well thats good then, becuase the 84.57 was WITH a&p. So it will be higher anyways. I am applying to the OP campus. Do you have any idea of how soon we will know? I am assuming 6-8 weeks after the final submission date? Feb28?

That's good your score will go up. Yeah, they did at one point look at all three scores but they changed the requirements about 1 1/2 years ago. I turned in my app at the Palatka campus and Laurie (Palatka's secretary) said it would be 4-6 weeks after the final submission date before students are notified. In the past, they mailed out a large manilla envelope that contains your letter of acceptance that you have to sign and return within a specified timeframe, medical forms, orientation info, etc. So, if you receive one of them, without even opening it up, you know you were accepted! I am really hoping Kindred Hospital is one of the clinical sites for the Nursing Program. I took a CNA course through SJRCC back in April in order to get the extra points and Kindred was one of the clinical sites. This hospital is exceptional; it solidified my decision to leave my current career and embark on one in the nursing field. Keeping my fingers crossed that all of us will be accepted!!!

I was accepted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So very happy right now!!!!!!!! Letters were mailed out yesterday from the Palatka campus and I received it in the mail today!!!! It comes in a standard white legal envelope rather than a large manilla one as in the past. I definitely plan on posting my experiences on allnurses.com as I complete my nursing education. I found a wealth of information on this forum left by prenursing students as well as nursing students and I plan on returning the favor. Good luck to everyone who applied!!!
