Hi there,
I am set to start CRNA school in August and I was wondering if there are any other single parents out there doing it?? I would love to hear any encouraging words of wisdom. I know how difficult and demanding school is and have a pretty good child care plan... I'm just already stressed out to the point I tears thinking about making it all work, school, finances, loans, clinicals... Any advice?

hello again! I responded to you on another post. We have one single parent in our class, however she was able to arrange for her child to live with her ex for the duration of school. She sees her son every other weekend, maybe a little more than that. It has been super rough. My husband is basically acting like a single parent, I do not do any housekeeping or child rearing, go food shopping, etc. I think if you have live in family support, or you live with family, or you have a nanny you should be fine. Having not done it I have no idea. Remember that for all contingencies you need a plan, if your child is sick and can't go to day care or school, you also can not skip class or clinical. Someone else must be responsible and available for that. Hope to hear from others, as I haven't really heard of anyone doing it! very good luck to you!

Hi Robbinaj,
I am a single parent and in my senior year of anesthesia school. Having a plan is great. I have a really strong support system, which has helped me succeed in school. However, it still gets extremely stressful. Especially if you are the primary parent. You have days when you feel like a horrible, incompetent parent, but you're not. You're making a sacrifice that will benefit you and your child(ren) in the future. Juggling it all is doable, if you have planned accordingly. This is something that every parent, especially single ones, must think about prior to entering school. I always tell potential students to be honest with themselves about their situation. If you're not prepared, don't take on the stress of anesthesia school. If you are prepared, be confident in your decision and realize that it's not an easy road. You'll still have bad days no matter how much you have planned.
