Hey everyone. I'm a 27 year old single mom of a 4 year old. I work overnights at a hospital as a tech right now, and i work as needed as a caregiver a few times a month. I'm almost done with my prerequisties, i have 3 classes left. I just applied to Chamberlain College of Nursing. I'm hoping to start by January of 2017. Ive been told that i'll have to pick 3 out of 4 things (work at least 30hrs a week, sleep, social life;family&friends, nursing school) does anyone have any advice to be able to do all those things? Any tips will help. Also does anyone recommend reading anything in particular before starting to program?!

With proper time management, you can still pass nursing school. You will struggle. My best friend (in nursing school--no time for other friends!!!) is a single mom of 2 school-aged boys and worked 2 12-hour shifts every Sat/Sun. And she pulls in mostly Bs. But she is married and her hubby picks up a lot of slack with the boys, taking them to and from school, etc. There is another student in our class that does it too, but again, she is married and has help from her hubby.

That said, there was no social life. She couldn't even watch tv. It was literally nursing school, work, sleep, repeat. She talked about how her kids cry and beg to spend time with her and she had to point out the date on the calendar for each school break. She lasted through 2 semesters and finally quit her job for 3rd (and we're going into 4th now and she's so much happier). She took out student loans to get by because she couldn't do it anymore.

I have to ask if you have any alternative to Chamberlain. They are very expensive, and it's possible that if you went a less expensive route, you could quit your job to focus on school, and come out in the same amount of debt as you would working all the way thru Chamberlain. I'm going to community college for my ADN and get enough financial aid and scholarships that my actual education is completely free.

Unfortunately I can't go anywhere else. I'm coming up to my 5 years on some science prerequisites. They are about to expire. My goal is to cut down to working part time. Just to bring some money home. I'm lucky that my parents are letting me live with them so I don't have much bills except my car payments and my sons day care. I'm hoping with him in day care it'll help me with school.
