Hello to all....

I've been seriously considering travel nursing for the past 2 years. The only catch I have is my 3 year old little girl My hope is to take a first assignment where I have some family to help me out, but has anyone dealt with trying to change assignments and trying to find child care? I don't know if it's feasible or if I should wait until she's in school??? Thanks! :p

I wonder why no one has responded to this because I would also like to know the answer to this also. But I wonder how could you travel with a child doing short term assignments like 13 wks. Wouldn't you have to take your child in and out of schools? I have kids and in the future I would consider travel nursing, but I've been told that it is not possible since I have kids.

Well like I mentioned, my daughter IS only 3, so I don't have to worry about school yet, but I'm guessing by the # of replies I've gotten, there aren't many people who travel with toddlers!!!! Guess maybe I'm a little of my rocker! ;)

I too am a single Mom who would like to know about traveling with kids. I have a 7 yr old and the only thing that would seem possible is to home-school during travel assignments. There are lots of web resources. But, my big concern is childcare for those 12 hr shifts. Some hospitals have in-house childcare centers but, the majority of "day-care centers are only open from 6:30a-6 or 6:30p. I don't care much for the public school system here in Lancaster, TX (Just south of Dallas, TX)but, I have an awesome babysitter who can watch my daughter day or night-when I work nights she spends the night there and she'll get her onto the bus and the bus drops her off at the sitters house after school. So, I've been doing perdiem with an agency which isn't guranteed and sometimes have done local contracts. Maybe in the future I might consider home-schooling if I could find the childcare resourses. Don't know any travel company that is including that as part of their benefits?!

Travel asssignments with the young is feasible..... there are always someone looking to help out. If you want to stay close to home it is an option... I have traveling for 7 years and with the exception of 3 assignments I have always been within 5 years of my home town and enjoyed every moment... it is harder when the child gets school age but not impossible you can do local agency during the school year and take an assignment during the summer as a treat for the child and you ...good luck
