It is a great life. You are constantly on a vacation. You chose where you want to go they provide the housing, car etc. Many companies make the package to fit your needs..... I have been doing this for 7 years and have been with both bad and great companies.... the smaller companies actually look out for the Nurse... best of luck
  2. Remember it is just for 12 more weeks..... remember most important to document and document.... it is the staffs loss not to appreciate the fact that you are there to help.. I had a similar assignment and just held my head high and kept professional until it was over. When my 13 weeks was over I knew I did my best and the problems the hospital had were there before I got there and I did my best to help the pts.... unfortunately not all assignments are a bed of roses just learn from them and grow... if it is not a safe assignment then you keep a journal and notify your recruiter do not jeopardize your license.

I have traveled for 7 years; look before you jump be aware some companies paint pretty pictures but in the end it is just business .
  4. hi understand your concern... I bought a travel trailer and take that with me to my assignments. Your housing subsidy easily pays the space and trailer note... and you have all the pleasures of home with you... plus you meet a great amount of people in rv parks..... best of luck Debi
  5. Sorry can't help with Northside but would love to share one of the best hospitals I have had the pleasure to be in thats Southern Regional.... the staff is awesome not only do they care they are professional....would recommend this hospital to any travelers
  6. Travel asssignments with the young is feasible..... there are always someone looking to help out. If you want to stay close to home it is an option... I have traveling for 7 years and with the exception of 3 assignments I have always been within 5 years of my home town and enjoyed every moment... it is harder when the child gets school age but not impossible you can do local agency during the school year and take an assignment during the summer as a treat for the child and you ...good luck
  7. Congradulations on being aware of the responsibilities involved with being a nurse..... this realization will actually set the basis for you being a safe and successful Nurse.... Take it one day at a time and as I tell others remember safety and have fun Nursing is a great profession Debi
  8. Round Rock is awesome.... I know I am from Tx...did an assignment in Austin but the traffic there stinks... cost of living is high but the hospitals have great reputations.... depending on what area of the hospital you want to work I would love to give you a few tips if you send me your department you want to work with [email protected]
  9. ER Nurses Rock yes we can get burnt out after having 3 shifts with trauma or code one after another...but get 3 days off and we are back on our feet... I wouldn't work anywhere else. We see people at their worse and make a difference..... we are a needed entity and I know I hold my head high as I go into and out of work because I do make a difference...... As far as stress yes at times but so is driving in snow its how you look at it and what your personal goals are.
  10. Hi as I say in most of replies remember safety first. Can you safely be in charge of a pediatric unit....if no take the opportunity to orient to the position to show that you are willing to grow but in return explain that you don't feel you are quite ready to take on the responsibility and set up a plan with your supervisor where you both are in agreement to a time limit, never say no just say not yet but willing to get there....this will make you more professional and your supervisor will appreciate your honesty. Debi
  11. Hi I too felt that way 7 years ago but as I have done and most recently 2 of my friends I strongly suggest you look into Excelsior College. It will make a big difference in a fast way Good Luck
  12. Remember safety as you are on your own out there. Most hospitals will not back the agency Nurse.
  13. Hi... Don't give up ..nursing school sets the foundation and now you have to grow.... every day is a learning experience for all of us. I have been doing this for over 15 years and each new job brings the same anxieties but also the same rewards.... take one day at a time .... talk with your supervisor and let her/him know of your fear (which is normal) and perhaps he/she will drop your pt load until you are more confident with your skills and in yourself..... You can do this you passed boards and if you remember safety first it will come GOOD Luck Debi
