Hi Everyone,
I am in desperate need of some career advice. I graduated nursing school in 2016. I worked one year in a nursing home and 1.5 years on a med/surg floor at a local hospital. I have not had a nursing job since early 2019. I'm a single mom with an autistic child. I have absolutely no friends or family to help me care for him. His dad used to watch him when I worked as an RN but he wasn't very reliable. We relocated states in 2019 and I applied to various remote jobs like utilization review and telehealth nurse positions but never got any interviews. I'm assuming because of the gap in employment and not much experience. My RN licensed has since lapsed because I didn't renew it. My question is should I change career paths? I read that there were alot of remote jobs in medical coding. I just need a job with a flexible schedule where I can work while he's in school. Should I renew my license? I just don't think a career in nursing is right for me but I worked so hard getting my ADN and BSN. Sorry for the long post but if anyone could give me some advice I would greatly appreciate it!

I would look into per diem for now. Regardless of being autistic or not, we can't leave our children alone, so I'd secure daycare asap. Working full time or close to full time will allow you to afford daycare. Personally, Id work in a hospital. Mine gives incentive and time and half once you have worked the minimum of hours required, even per diem.
