Hi everyone!

So, I've finally made the decision to go into nursing ( :D ) and I reallyreallyREALLY want to go to Simmons (I'm in Boston) because of its reputation and the amazingness of the program in general. I'm finishing up prerequisites this and next semester, and so I'm writing my application now hoping to start an actual nursing program next summer/fall.

I had a question, though. For people who are in, or just about to start, the 2-year BSN track -- what's the schedule like? I'm working full time right now, and that most likely couldn't change *too* much (committed to the agency I work for for both money to live on reasons and visa sponsorship reasons!). I just wanted to get a sense of what a week/semester would look like.

Thank you!!

Hi,

I'm currently applying to the program also (keeping fingers crossed) and from what I've heard from the advisers and previous students i've spoken to is that the program is pretty intense and working is not recommended. I'm sure some people have done it before though...I think it just takes some pretty good time management skills. Goodluck! :)

I'm so glad to find someone else on here applying... good luck!!! :-)

I am in the 2 year Dix Scholars program now and will be graduating in May 2011. You could probably get by with working full time for the first fall and spring semesters (I would recommend no more than 30 hours, though). However, there is no way you'll be able to work full time in the summer and second fall semester. I'm working 20 hrs a week now and am finding it extremely difficult to keep up with everything. I would highly recommend start saving every dollar now in order to support yourself in the last year. Good luck, you'll really enjoy Simmons!! :)

Ooooh, that's really good to know, thank you!!! Are you loving every minute of it? I'm trying to get through the rereqs right now, doing most as 8-week intensives... crazy stuff!

Where are you doing your clinicals? Have you had a good experience so far? :D I volunteer at the ED at MGH and would love to get some hands-on experience there. :-)

Simmons has an excellent program and it's a great little community. I have only good things to say about it. They really prep you and give you tons of great experience. Clinicals are at all the major hospitals; such as, BMC, Tufts, MGH, BI, B&W, Children's, and Faulkner.

Great way to get your foot in at MGH. That's awesome!
