Simmons ABSN Fall 2017

Published

Hi! Was anyone else on here accepted for the accelerated nursing program at Simmons, beginning in Fall 2017? Anyone attending the accepted students day on 4/14? I was accepted, and am trying to decide between Simmons and UMass Amherst. It turns out that Simmons would end up being cheaper for me because my mom lives near Boston, so I would live with her rent free and have a much lower cost of living than if I were to live in Springfield and go to UMass Amherst (the ABSN program at UMass Amherst is now in Springfield).

I would love to speak to others planning to enroll at Simmons, or people who have gone through the program!

Hi! Congrats! I also got into both schools, but I haven't decided yet. UMass would be cheaper for me, but I like Simmons' location better. Have you gotten your TCE (Transfer Credit Evaluation) from the Registrar's office yet? I'm waiting for the official word from them on which of my pre-reqs will transfer and be accepted. If I have to take additional courses (especially since I thought I got all the pre-reqs done), that will influence whether i choose to go to Simmons.

I hope people who are in the program/have gone through it will see this thread and give us some of their insights!

Hi, congratulations to you too! Yes, I did get my TCE. All of my prerequisites transferred. I took Bio, A&P 1 and A&P 2 at a community college. I took Microbiology, Nutrition (I forget if that was a prereq for Simmons for for UMass Boston), Human Growth and Development and Statistics (also might have just been a prereq for UMB) online through Portage Learning. Simmons accepted all of them! I haven't taken Chem yet, but they told me that they would accept it through Portage Learning so I am going to take a combined Inorganic/Organic Chem through Portage this spring/summer - basically as soon as I decide if I'm going to Simmons. At first they said that I had to take Psych 101, but I took a 200 level psych course in college and worked a job that encompassed psychology, so I submitted the petition and had it waived. Basically, I thought they were good about accepting prerequisites, and I bet they will accept yours!

Where did you take your prerequisites? Where are you from? Did you apply to UMass Boston as well? I did, and was waitlisted.

How soon after you got your acceptance letter did you get your TCE? I got accepted back in mid-Feb and I still haven't received mine. Maybe I need to contact their registrar's office on Monday.

I'm from the Midwest and I took most of my pre-reqs at my local public university (it's a large research university) and a few at a local community college -- I didn't do any of them online. I did not apply to UMass Boston (do they have an accelerated BSN program?).

I actually got my TCE prior to getting my acceptance letter. I received it through email on January 27th and then I received my acceptance letter a few weeks later. Yeah, it can't hurt to call the registrars office! You'll want to ask for Sarah Hurd I believe, or email her at [email protected].

I bet all of your prerequisites will be accepted!

Yes, UMass Boston has a 15 months accelerated BSN program. They accept 35 students per year, and you have to have your prerequisites finished before applying (which is why I ended up doing a few of mine online - to finish them sooner so that I could apply to UMB.)

Thanks for the info, I'll definitely reach out about that TCE.

Now the UMass Boston program rings a bell. I remember not applying because the deadline was like Dec 1st and I wouldn't have had all my pre-reqs done by then. There was another school I wanted to apply to in Oregon but I ended up not being able to because they required completion of all pre-reqs before applying.

Hi and Congrats! I finally just accepted Simmons for the fall and will be attending accepted students day on Friday. I was also trying to decide between Umass Amherst and Simmons but ultimately chose Simmons because I already live in the area and going to Umass would have meant moving away from my family and support systems and with the cost of relocating, Umass didn't end up being that much cheeper.

I also saved chemistry for last since not all schools required it. and Im currently taking them at BHCC. (super easy compared to A&P and microbio)

Is there a facebook page specifically for Simmons ABSN 2017? I tried doing a facebook search but only found one for Direct Entry FNP.

No, I don't think there is. We should make one!

I'm also starting Simmons in the fall 2017 but I am a Dix scholar ( adult learner) so this is a secodn career for me. I am doing the two year BSN option

Recently accepted into the Simmons Dix ABSN program, as well as MGH's ABSN program. Trying to choose between the two. Anyone have any thoughts?

Hi, Congratulations! I decided against doing an accelerated program and I am doing the 2-year program at Simmons and am super glad I chose not to do the ABSN but of course that means I can't really talk about that program. I decided against MGH but it was only because there was no 2 year option there so it wasn't anything against MGH. I don't think that's very helpful but if you have any particular questions feel free to ask
