Hello everyone!
I am a fresh first year nursing student so I am filled with odd inquiries. I recently sat in my first surgery and was not really prepared what to wear since I am the only male on my clinical and my instructor is female. I was basically dropped off into the locker room to change into scrubs, and all I was able to find was a surgical cap. However, I was later notified by fellow students that I needed to wear a scrub cap (bonnet?). I don't have long hair like my fellow students but I did not see other nurses wearing the surgical caps, is this a status thing? Any jokes and comments are welcomed, as I am just a naive nursing student

I always saw everyone wearing a scrub cap but the surgeons for surgeries. In the Cath lab one gal had a surgical cap but it's one she bought herself and brought in and she worked there. She said most wear the scrub caps because they are free and disposable. No worries of having to bring home and wash or have it go "missing".

If your program does not state which one you have to wear, then you can wear whichever you like. Men usually wear the surgical caps. At my hospital it is your personal choice which one to wear.
