Just a quick question to address some of the bonuses that are being offered while entering into a contract to serve. I was told by my recruiter that the current bonus is $25K plus 30K for tuition for a 6 year stint (this is for the AF). Is this negotiable? Also, is there an additional bonus for re-signing (more years)? Any comments or experiences regarding this would be appreciated!

Incentives for recruiting are available in set packages and are not up to bidding or changing. Incentives for signing on additional years are based on service, your job, your rank, and the manpower requirements at that time. Officers generally have less sign on 'incentives' and after their obligation don't 'sign-on' but just continue to serve.... however, there are always unique circumstances...as the Army recently gave incentives for junior officers in certain branches to get financial or school incentives for continuing to serve past their minimum obligation - however this is a manpower issue in certain branches - is a 'first time trial plan' and is largely due to OIF/OEF and the expansion of the Army...
