Hello all! I am new to all nurses and need help desperately! I just finished up my gen ed and pre-reqs. Unfortunately, I wasn't given admission to USF's BSN program at their sister campus in Sacramento. I have a cumulative gpa of 3.07 and i'm applying to more schools this fall, however I do not have a competitive gpa. Do you guys think I should switch my major to a bachelors of science in community health education just in case I don't get accepted to any nursing programs for the spring. I was told a BS in health sciences is a popular route for people who have switched fom nursing. For the record, I am 22 years old. All advice is appreciated, thanks!

At this point, I strongly advise you to avoid squandering your resources on a degree that will not provide any value in terms of employment or career development. Will that degree qualify you for any sort of employment? If not, why should you pursue it? There is another huge consideration... you would be expending all your financial aid on a fairly useless degree. Then, when/if you attempt to return to school for a second Bachelor's or other degree, you'll have to resort to loans to pay for it.
If you don't make it into your first choice program... don't just give up entirely. That's like responding to a flat by slashing your other three tires. Nope, nope, nope - investigate some alternative strategies to achieve your goal. If you poke around here on AN, you'll see that there are many avenues to achieve your nursing degree.
Wishing you all the best on your educational journey.

I would not waste money on a second degree that you may or may not get to use or find employment. Apply to every single program that you would be willing to drive to. Apply for ASN programs. Thats what i would do. Do not give up so easily
