Should I pursue something other than Nursing?

I graduated in from nursing school in 2000. I have taken the nclex several times. Needless to say I am spent. My husband wants me to continue taking the exam but it has taken a toll on me mentally. I am currently using Kaplan to study yet again, but I need to hear from someone that after being out of school so long, it is possible to pass. :o

You've come this far. I did pretty good on the nclex (canadian). But honestly, I didn't even take it for a little while after I graduated from nursing school. Try taking a refresher course. It's a review. Maybe you are practicing for the exam the wrong way. It is still possible to pass! Just don't give up. Some people are "late bloomers". You'll get it, I'm sure.

Hi and welcome to the site - you have come to the right place!! Only you can decide if you're done trying.

However if you want to pass, and are just discouraged, don't give up! You finished nursing school, so you have the knowledge. Maybe understanding more about the exam or test-taking strategy is your downfall? Check out the resources in the NCLEX forum, particularly a post from Suzanne4 about her study plan. She has ~100% passing rate. She recommends Saunders Comprehensive book, and a thorough pace of study over several weeks/months.

Why not try once more with this method? I have not yet passed NCLEX (awaiting eligibility) but I have been out of school for 10 years (international RN) and plan to pass any time now when I can take the darn thing!!

My best friend was out of RN school for 12 years & finally took her boards 2 1/2 weeks ago & passed...so, yes, it is possible! Myself, I used Suzanne's study plan (see her "sticky" post at the top of this forum for details) & Saunders Comprehensive Review...it's very good & as the OP stated, Suzanne's plan does have 100% pass rate. Don't give up...there's still hope!!! Also...welcome to allnurses. com!

I feel the same way. I thought I was the only one in this situation. I grad. in '99 but only took the NCLEX 1 time since. That's how bad I was discouraged.

I feel that I'm ready to give it a try once more. GOOD luck!
