Should I Lpn in Carribbean or LA

Hello, I'm at a lost and cannot rest over this! I was accepted into a RN program in the caribbean and a LVN program in Los angeles. I currently live in cental california. Tution at UVI (in the carribbean) is about 12,000.00, and it takes 2 years. tution at the lvn school is 16-20,000.00 and thats for 1 year. Rent etc is about the same at both places. I already finished all my RN prereqs so if I finish the lvn, I'm pretty much guaranteed to transfer into the rn program here at a city college and it's 7 more months. I don't know what to do!!! No matter what, it's expensive but I would save more money by moving to the carribean!!! I also refuse to wait around here and hope to get "lucky"with all the lotteries. But I can't stand the thought of being so far away from everyone I love. At least in la, I have 3 of my oldest friends there and it's only 3 hrs from my hometown. But if i save like 10 grand by going to the carribbean.... advice please??? Oh and both are accredited etc.

well, what is the nclex pass rate at each? what percentage make it through the program? what is technology like at the hospitals you will do clinicals at?

and most importantly, what is your gut telling you to do?

Let's see, the pass rates at the school is LA is 94% (LVN program) The average at the carribbean is 85% (Rn program). I have no idea what my gut tells me. My decision goes back and forth all the time! But my family/friends are very important to me so, I would love to be near them instead of 15oo miles away! As far as technology, the clinicals are at LA metro hospitals so I don't know?? In the carribbean, I'm sure it's different. I have no idea!

Are you aware of any Carribean-trained RNs working near you? What's their employment situation like, or how have they found their training once faced with US healthcare policies: good or not?

I hope this doesn't sound snotty, but this reminds me of a joke about an MD who "graduated from the finest medical school in Guatamala"....and didn't know which end of a stethoscope to stick on his patient. At any rate, qualities of schools differ from school to school, town to town, state to state....and country to country.

Best of luck in what you decide!

Well, since the school in the Caribbean is $12,000 for your RN and the oen in CA is 16-20K for your LPN and then you must pay for RN school, I would go for the one in the Caribbean. Not to mention I've always wanted to live in the tropics!
