I'm a Freshman in college. I plan on getting my CNA license this summer and working as a CNA while in school. I was wondering if It would be better to get an ASN before the BSN or should I just go straight for the BSN? What do you think, work my way up or just get the BSN?

I am planning to take a CNA course this summer while I purse my associates. I'm not sure as well if I should go straight for the BSN , so I can't offer much help! I may go associates first only due to the high cost of the BSN programs in my area.
april1224- Ugh! So much thinking. Lol. What area of Florida are you in?

The only reason I started with my ASN then to bsn is because most hospitals will reimburse your schooling for BSN. So you get out sooner as an RN get money as an RN and then get paid to take online classes for a year to get your BSN. Eventually all hospitals will require BSN I just did the other route to work out better financially
JDuganRN- I like the sound of that. I went into college with my mind strictly on the BSN. But I would really like to get a headstart while in school instead of waiting til after I get the BSN to get my life started. That's why I thought about getting the ASN first.
Yea so far it's worked out really great... One thing i did also while taking my ASN classes was take bachelor pre requisites like for example : speech English math history psychology and all those kinds of classes that way I will literally only have to complete the bachelor nursing classes. I graduated with more credits than I needed for ASN but just enough credits to complete my BSN. if i didnt complete those classes i would probably had to extend the length of time to fully complete my bsn.It really worked out in my favor... So now I only have to take a year online while still working with a RN pay check... It's nice :)

Unless you go to school at Nova, there Bsn is 2 years... I say get a job at a hospital that does tuition assistance... Then you'll be done ASAP
Nurse Neddie- Really??? Did you get your BSN from there? That almost sounds too good to be true. Lol
I wish I did !!!! It's there entry level rn program. Look it up at nova.edu, I had a couple of friends at did it with them, I was a lpn so I did a bridge program... Took me a little under a year. But you need to have all your prerequisite done. Hey if I could go back before the lpn, I would of just done the BSN with them... I would of been on my masters now
Nurse Neddie- Yeah, If only all schools did this. Cause I really want a BSN from USF! :)
