Should I continue on with school?

So I am looking for any advice I can get from all related sources. I am an LPN, in michigan, went to a community college intending on getting my RN. I repeated several classes, due to ADD, reading comprehension issues, lack of support from my husband, having 3 children, and working. I graduated with my LPN in December of 2006. I exited out of the ladder program to take chemistry, and work.(for experience, and money.) I took chemistry, and had to repeat it b/c I did not get a 77. So a year later I took it again and passed. I have been working continuesly since I got my LPN. I have a job in a hospital as a LPN. My passion is OB, that is why I went to school. I work in the Family Birthing Unit but float to the other departments when the census is down. I have a great personality and love people. I am complimented frequently for my personality. The problem I have is test taking, and retaining the infromation. I have taken classes, and bought visual flashcards, studied my butt off, and then I get grades like 78, 68, 77. I went back into the community college nursing program in fall 2010, for the 1st semester of my 2nd year. I was taking cardiology, icu, er, etc. I did horrible. My husband is working out of state, leaving me with all of the responsibilty, but I studied hard. I finished the class with a 70%. Needing a 77%. So I am now kicked out of the program, because I have repaeated more than 2 classes, in the nursing program. I am devastated. I really want to be a nurse. I am 40 years old, and have been working on this for 8 years. All of the programs around me, will require me to repeat my A&P classes, b/c they r 7 years old. I just don't know what to do. I wonder if I should try Excelsior, since I just learned all of the cardio and intensive stuff and I work In a hospital where I can get clinical experience. Please any advice I will take, good or bad. Thanks.

I forgot to mention, I started taking Adderal 25mg, this fall for the ADD, and seeing a psychologist for counseling, and it does help me to focus. Maybe just did not take it soon enough?

There are a lot of LPNs here on allnurses.com who have or are bridging through Excelsior. I heard nothing but great things about the program. However, do you live in California? If so, Excelsior is not an option as it is not accepted in that state. If you are from California, Indiana State University has a LPN to BSN program and it is online. I believe they do not have a recency rule (meaning if your Anatomy, Physiology, and/or Microbiology expired). It will take awhile to get your BSN but, at least you can do it at your own pace and convenience. Read through the ISU threads for more info.

I have a bit of ADD myself and I have found that short study sessions work for me. Also, see what type of learner you are whether it is visual, hearing, or hands on. I'm a visual learner and constantly draw pictures to get a sense of what I am learning.

I'm also a mom too. It's hard juggling being a mom and a student. The key is organization and simplifying. I'm trying to get into a RN bridge program and if accepted, I've already taken out my wall calendar to plan out my days and crock pot to cook dinners.:lol2:

From your personality you would be a great nurse. Keep going and good luck!
