Should I ask for a pay raise if new job wants to add supervisor duties?

I am a new RN grad starting my first job in a few days. I was told that my job would be to do a lot of chart reviews, patient calls, ordering and fill in for the patient care nurses when needed. The layout of the clinic is: 2 physicians, 2 nurses, front desk staff, etc. Come to find out, the 2 other nurses working directly with the dr's are actually an LPN and an MA. When I went to fill out the paperwork yesterday the directors explained that they are actually looking for me to become a sort of supervisor. Adding overseeing the staff, putting out fires and improving work flow. They are not even telling the staff this is the plan because they are worried about staff reaction.

I definitely do not mind stepping into these roles, but I do want to be compensated for the added duties. When reading the job description it does not say anything about overseeing staff or ANYTHING other than normal clinic patient care type tasks. Not to mention that the current pay is only $20/hr.

My question:1) What should I ask for/expect in regards to additional pay for these added supervisory roles?

2) How do I go about bringing this up to management?

I think you do NOT talk about a raise right now- first job as an RN? $20/ hour in a clinic (meaning M-F, day shift, right?) You're being fairly compensated- and you haven't actually supervised anyone yet. Give it six months- if you've made a demonstrable difference in the office/ bottom line/ workplace - THEN ask for more $$.

Personally, if I were being handed more duties in addition to working the clinic and I wasn't wearing a uniform, I'd be asking for more money.

Also, nurse is a protected title in many states. Be careful that your employer isn't using that term loosey-goosey with the MA. On the flipside of that same statement, an LPN is a nurse.

When the directors told you they are not telling the staff that you will be supervising them because they are worried about the staffs' reaction, your first thought was I should ask for more money? Not how little authority do these directors have over their staff?
