Should I apply for a license in every state I'm trying to get a job in?

On the surface, it seems silly to have to spend the money and apply for a license in a state where you don't live, or have a job. But, I wonder if the fact I don't have a license in a particular state is hindering my chances for an interview. What do you think? Really, it would only be two extra states because my home state is a compact state and I'm not looking at anything other than those two extra states and what's covered in the compact. I don't have a lot of money to just throw around. So, I thought I'd ask you all what you think.

That is a really good question! I just applied for a license in another state to see if it will increase my chances of getting an interview. I had called nurse recruiters and a few hospitals basically said they wouldn't even consider me without that state's license. It's not so fun to shell out that extra money (hundreds really) and I find it ridiculous they won't consider someone who has their license in another state (passed the NCLEX, not that much of a risk) but with the tough job market I felt like I needed to spend the money to expand my search region and give myself a shot.

I don't have the second license yet, so I don't know the answer to your question, but I'm in the same boat! Good luck, I hope you find what you're looking for. All us job hunters are in my prayers.

I am glad that you brought up a good point.... Thanks, I am currently looking for a BSN - RN position in Philly... it's tough; I am praying that I will.... Maybe obtaining a second lic in New jersey couldn't hurt.... I wonder how much?:)

Especially with me being a new RN grad & all with a LIC to practice in Pa. I live in Philly....:)
