Shoes for a Vet with Knee & Back Issues

Published

Hi Everyone,

I am a Vet with some knee and back issues who is getting ready for nursing school, the sad part is I am only 26 :crying2:. I have runner's knee or what my doc called patella dysfunction in both knees and lumbar strain; both of which have landed me in aquatic physical therapy. I got the injuries while in the Navy carry equipment that my little body had no right running around a flight deck with.

Anywho, I see a lot of threads about shoes and it looks like Dansko are pretty popular with anyone, but I was hoping a nurse with problems like mine might have some suggestions for shoes. I have done some volunteering at the VA Medical Center and quickly found that running shoes are not cutting it.

Thanks!

Chris

Hey Chris...sorry to see you have so many issues, given your young age. At least you are aware and are trying to accomodate.

I'm 37 with flat feet, no arches, knees that pop (after having 3 kids), and occasional back pain. I just started wearing Dansko's last week...FINALLY...because I've got narrow feet and they didn't carry narrow until now. Leather Professionals - love them! My feet don't hurt like they used to after a shift. Took a few days wearing around the house to break them in.

FYI, for my back/knee issues...I go to bed every night with ice packs on both knees and on my low back. WORKS WONDERS! Got the advice to do this from my own Mom, who is a very experienced Physical Therapist.

Good Luck on the shoe hunt!

Thank you so much for your reply! I will definitely have to check out the Danskos! My physical therapist tells me to make sure I ice my knees and I always forget, so I will give it a shot. :)

The reuseable gel ice packs are the best! :)
