Shifts

I like to look at the hospital websites to look at the type of jobs they have available. It gives me a piece of mind while I'm in school. Anyway when I was on there they had this:

Shift: Second : Full-time

Hours: 1430-2300 Every Other Weekend.... How can you be full time if you only work everyother weekend.

Next dumb question: I noticed some are saying 36 hours are full time...do they pay you for 40? I wonder if overtime is allowed if people choose.

Thanks in advance.

Well, I'm only guessing - but I would say the shift you posted about means that whichever days you work have to INCLUDE every other weekend. As the hospitals have difficulty staffing weekends, most require a minimum of two weekends a month or every other weekend... So, the shift is not ONLY for every other weekend. Make sense?

As for 36 hours being full-time - most hospitals are staffing 12 hour shifts. So, you do 3 or 4 twelve hour shifts a week - depending on where you work and staffing needs. Most of the hospitals offer overtime and some even pay extra incentives in addition to overtime pay. BUT, I don't think any of the hospitals pay you for 40 if you only do 36...

EO weekend generally means one weekday off the week before your working weekend and one day off in the week after. They usually work it out so we don't work more than 4-5 days in a row, ie; work M-T-W, Thursday off, then work F-Sat-Sun-M, off on Tue, work W-TH-F then have a full weekend off.
