I have been reading this site for about a year now and would like to thank everyone here first and foremost for all of your advice. I read and relayed the information I read here to my wife to assist her in studying for her NCLEX-RN test.
I'll give you her quick story as I am sure some people will relate.
She graduated nursing school and immediately signed up for her NCLEX test. She studied using the Saunder's NCLEX book and did the questions. She went into the test thinking that nursing school had prepared her and ended taking all 265 and failing.
I started looking for information to help her and came upon this website. I read the reviews on books, advice on study habits, and other information for the test. Upon reading the information here is the plan she used:
-Prioritization, Delegation, and Assignment by Linda LaCharity - She said this was the most helpful resource in studying for her exam. She said over half of her questions on her second exam were related to information from this book.
-Exam Cram Book and CD - She read the little information in the book and used the CD to the fullest. She went through all 3 steps (pretest, study questions, and then the adaptive test). By the time she went through all 3 levels she was gaining more and more confidence.
-NCLEX 4000 - Towards the end of her studying, probably the last 2 weeks she would do at least 150 of these a day (each test is 75 questions). There are always links somewhere online to this for free.
-Frye's 3300 Bullet Points - She liked this book because she could carry it around and grab a few bits of information wherever she was. She also said as she was reading she would notice the information from the bullets almost verbatim on the 4000. Plus this book was only
She took her test for a second time on Friday at 10:30am. She ended up only getting 75 questions this time and finished in 50 minutes. About an hour later I was able to do the PVT which gave the good pop up and that helped her immensely. Today at exactly 48 hours after she ended her test her quick results we available on Vue's website stating she passed.
I asked her the things that helped most, and she told me the LaCharity book for sure, followed by the ExamCram questions. Also she said the mnemonics (My Chicken Hez TB, MRS WEE, etc) came in handy.
She said her test was mostly prioritization, 17 out of 75 were SATA (her first question this time was SATA), some endocrine, and no drug math.
Again I wanted to thank all of you who posted here for your help and hope that her story would help someone else who is about to go on this journey.

Congrats to your wife!!!! Its great that she has such a supportive husband! I took my exam Friday as well and I got the good pop up, and am not paying for the quick results. Hopefully the PVT works for me as well!

I would like to take a minute and tell you, "Thank you for being such a caring and supportive husband!" Your wife is very lucky to have you. I can honestly say that if your support throughout her education was anything like it appears, you helped her immensely through a very rigorous and emotional time in both of your lives. It helps so much to have a supportive spouse that is always there to cheer you on. I know that I can never repay my husband for the support he gave me while I was in school...
Now, CONGRATULATIONS to your wife and may the two of you continue to support one another throughout life. Both of you deserve a nice night out (or in) because I am pretty sure the dates were pretty far and few between there for awhile...
