I want SO badly for SFSU's nursing program to help me achieve my dreams of being a nurse and doing what I love: helping others. I really have not wanted anything so bad in my entire life because I heard the campus and faculty are AMAZING, including the NCLEX passing rates! I know it be won't easy getting in, however, I really am interested in feedback or words of encouragement from those who were fortunate enough to get in and from those who have applied to SFSU. I currently do volunteer work at a hospital in Southern California, but I may not have enough hours to have a letter by the Nursing School app deadline. I have roughly around a 3.6-3.7 GPA, a 84.7% TEAS score, I speak 3 languages, and have multicultural experience.
When exactly are nursing applications for the Fall 2012 cohort due?
Any feedback is appreciated. :) Thank you!
Honestly, I don't feel very comfortable about meeting in person, but I'll try to help you out as much as I can (for free) on here or through private message. There are a few things I need you to answer so that I can better gauge what your situation is:
1) What were your grades for Anatomy, Anatomy lab, physiology, physiology lab, chemistry, chemistry lab, microbiology, microbiology lab, statistics, nutrition, english, and general psychology?
2) Have you taken the Teas V test? If so, what was your score? If not, you MUST take it before the deadline and have the score sent to SFSU. Also it has to be Teas V, none of the other versions of the Teas test are accepted.
3) Do you have any health care work experience? (non-volunteer)
4) Do you have any volunteer experience in a health care setting?
5) Do you have any multicultural volunteer experience? (like volunteering in homeless shelters, food banks, etc)
5) Do you speak any other languages other than English? How proficient are you?
6) Do you have any letters of recommendations? Must be from either a teacher/counselor or a supervisor from work. If not, you MUST get at least 1 and have them say exceptional things about you as a person and as a student/worker.
1. My grades for Anatomy-76, Anatomy lab-n/a, physiology-80, physiology lab-n/a, chemistry-73, chemistry lab-n/a, microbiology-88, microbiology lab-n/a, statistics-88, nutrition-96, english-89, and general psychology-pass? All courses I took when I learned nursing abroad.
2. I didn't take the Teas V test
3. nursing experience more than 10 years
4. no volunteer experience
5. speak proficiently 2 more languages
6. I have letters of recommendations, and you just made me very happy because I thought that I have references only from my teachers that all are abroad!
I'm sorry that I will never know who you are because if I got admitted, we will meet :)
hmm...I think you should go to the general education office in the Administration office to see if your pre-requisite classes will transfer over since they were taken abroad. I'm not familiar with the rules concerning out of country classes. Also, the Teas V test has been a requirement since last application period (so if you applied last fall that might be why your application was incomplete/rejected). You should also consider volunteering in the community to increase your application strength.
Try to call the school of nursing and ask them about your classes taken abroad. If they're not accepted then you'll have to retake all of those classes here in the US. Plus, you need to take microbiology lab and chemistry lab...just taking the lecture component isn't enough. That's also why your application is incomplete most likely. If you're not sure about general psychology I suggest you retake it.
I'm assuming that the numbers you listed as grades in those classes are out of 100? Right now, your grades in Anatomy and Chemistry need to be pulled up to at least 85+. SFSU's nursing program is extremely competitive. Many people don't get into the program who have all 90s in every class. The key is to make sure you have as many of the criteria as possible and the best grades possible.
Hope this helps :)

SFSU School of Nursing does not take letters of recommendations as far as I remember. I was accepted and start Spring 2012.

I submitted a letter of recommendation...I was accepted and started Fall 2011 for the BSN program and was never waitlisted, so it can't hurt submitting one. I'm currently at SFSU half way through my level 1 semester.

As you already started learning, you really know how to apply. So, you can help me. I'd like you to meet with me, explain all the process again, and help me with the documents. Until now, I completed a part of the process, but it appears again that something that I did is just missing.
