Hello,
I earned my B.S. in Health Sciences at UCSC and...well my graduation GPA isn't quite 3.0 (2.92). It's quite low. I'm a very hard working student and I feel that my grades don't reflect on the student I am. I took human phys at UCSC, but had to retake it at SJSU and I got an A. Anyways, I want to apply to get my entry level master's at either USF, SFSU, Samuel Merritt, or Western University. I am scared that I won't get into any of them. I am currently taking the pre-req courses for the programs. Do you think that it is possible to get into the schools I listed above? Any suggestions on how to become a better candidate?
Thanks,
T

The best you can do is keep taking classes to try to raise your GPA. Sounds like you're pretty close to a 3.0. Even if they are classes that won't help advance you in your Nursing goal. It will at least raise your GPA.

It depends on the school that you are applying to. Not all nursing schools evaluate students the same. The school I went to had a point system. So I did my best to max out on the points to get in and it worked. Other schools put more emphasis on certain pre-reqs and overall GPA, interview, etc. Some schools even use entrance exams to determine who they select. Look at the admissions for the schools you like and do what you can. Any health care experience might be an added bonus as well. This even be volunteering. Don't waste your time taking a bunch of classes if the school doesnt want them or if it wouldnt give you a good shot at getting in. Try to get all As in your pre-reqs.
Good luck!
