Hi all! Currently applying to nursing schools around the bay area and right now I am reconsidering which one my first pick is going to be (that is if I get in to them both!)
For years I've wanted to go to Cal State East Bay (concord campus) because its so close but I am now considering going to SFSU because it is only a 2 year program, compared to CSUEB 3.
Just getting to SFSU on a regular school morning will be about an and hour and half for me taking bart. Not so bad, but I can't really see where SFSU does their clinicals or what times students had them at. And that is what I'm worried about. I realize that each year they change depending on contracts etc. but I'm just trying to get a general idea.
So my question is: if you or someone you know did the SFSU BSN (pre-lisensure) program where did you have to go to clinicals? And what times did you have to go, if you remember?
Thank you!

I applied to both of those programs as well, but I am happily taking the extra year in school to avoid commuting to SF, and not just SF, but SFSU in the far corner of the city. If you are at CSUEB, you will be on campus 3-4 days/week, so if you live close to Concord I would envy that commute! As far as clinicals, we are all over the East Bay, but there are no bridges involved. I don't know where SFSU does their clinicals, but I would assume, due to the number of hospitals in SF, you would be mostly in the 415. When I was poking around Concord (ultimately chose Hayward), some students told me they go to John Muir, Kaiser Antioch, Martinez, etc. I know I didn't answer your question precisely, but maybe my thought process is helpful to you.

Your thread has been moved to the Nursing Schools / Colleges forum where the other school specific discussions are. We hope you will receive additional responses in this new location.
Yes that helps me a lot! Thank you! I am leaning more towards CSUEB now (again)... the commute to SFSU, i think, would be hell to do for two years. I can just see myself being so sleep deprived trying to wake up that early every morning.
Plus I have heard soo many good things about CSUEB. Have you enjoyed it? As far as instructors and just the organization of it all?

Hey Nat!
I'm in the SFSU program at the Canada (Redwood City) campus. Our first semester clinicals were either in San Francisco or on the Peninsula (San Mateo), and then all of our lectures were in Redwood city. This coming semester it's varied, and they do try to place you close to home if they can. I live on the East side of the bay as well, and so my clinical sites will be in Fremont and San Leandro.
Hope that helped. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask!

Hi! I graduated from SFSU in 2015. We had clinicals in the east bay, SF, and the peninsula depending on the semester. I know SFSU has since revised their program, but we were allowed to choose which clinical site we wanted depending on our class registration date. Just to warn you tho, sometimes we wouldn't know what clinical sites we had until a few days before the semester started. I would honestly choose a school closer to your house. A lot of times you'll want to get to clinical before 0700. SFSU does offer a free shuttle for you take from Daly City bart to classes, but the wait can be up to an hour during rush hour.
