SFCC in Avon Park, FL

U.S.A. Florida

I'm looking for information about the RN program offered at South Florida Community College in Avon Park, FL. Any info I can get would really be appreciated!

Specifically, I'm curious about anyone's personal thoughts on the program? How competitive is it for entry into the program? What type of degree do they offer? Their website shows that they offer both an a.s. and an a.a.s. Is this true? I have had a couple emails with a someone from the school, and was told they only offer the a.a.s. Is this true? If it is, anyone happen to know the transferability of their degree to an bsn program?

Also, if anyone can offer any feedback about the area of Avon Park, Sebring, or Lake Placid, I'd really appreciate to receive it also (looking into relocating to the area).

Thanks in advance!!

I graduated from SFCC's RN program June 2008, as for the competitive question, I really couldn't say, I was fortunate to be able to get in the first time I applied, I really think what helped was that beyond the 4 pre-req's I completed all but the humanities general ed credits prior to the program starting, so I was able to take alot of classes I'd need towards my BSN/MSN later on so I could maintain FT status for financial aide. they have the AS listed online and in the book but it's not fully set up through the state last I had heard so it is an AAS, which is fully transferable to any major university (I'm leaning towards USF in Tampa since they will accept my intro chem class for thei chem requirement) as for the area, it's rough job-wise, best thing to do is get your CNA and get hired on at a hospital or LTC so you have a foot in the door prior to finishing nursing school (I say go with Florida Hospital but that's just because I work for them and am biased lol) also Highlands or Hardee county residents get preference for entrance since other counties around us also have nursing programs. Hope that helped some, if you have other questions just ask away :)
