Sexism in the Workplace

Published

I feel like I am always asked first to deal with combative patients, heavy patients, or helping up patients that have fallen on the floor. Is this something I can try to talk to HR about? Would it even be worth the fuss?

Patient care and safety should always come first. The female RN asking for your assistance is often doing her job by finding you and asking for help...either by recognizing that she can't perform an order alone or...since females deal with a lot of **** from patients that can be scary...acknowledging that she feels uncomfortable alone. Work it out with her so that it is not one-sided, and be the best team possible. If you are constantly hounded unfairly, then maybe HR would care, but otherwise, work it out with your peers.

If you are called to reposition her 400 pound client every 2 hours, have her suction a trach for you or something, or cover you for lunch, etc :p

As males we are typically the first to be called in these situations. Is it annoying? Yes, but really its not a big deal. Not sure what kind of claim you could have bringing this up to HR considering Nursing and CNA is a teamwork environment. I can't tell you how often i get called to assist with any kind of lifting just because of how i look on the outside but im always ready to assist my coworkers and those i provide care to

As I was reading I also began to wonder if it was a situation necessary for a claim. Is that necessarily sexism?
