Seriously, where are all the jobs!!

Hey all,

Does anyone know of any hospital/facility that is hiring right now in northern Virginia? I graduated a year ago and I'm soooooo frustrated. I can't find anything. anywhere. Anyone know of any job fairs that are to occur in this area anytime soon? My first preference would be to work for the INOVA system.

please help.

RN/LPN/CMA/RMA

Definitely craigslist! My last two jobs were off craigslist and I have been so happy with both.

INOVA had a TON of positions a few months ago. I would call a nurse recruiter and ask if they still have anything available. They just opened that new hospital in Spotsylvania, so they would probably have something.

I don't think Inova is hiring new grads, though. There are mostly RN 2 positions open.

Hmmm. Well they offered a position to me after I passed boards. Maybe they were more desperate for nurses then?

Regardless, it's worth a shot. The worst they can say is no :)

Were you already an Inova employee? I was -- that was a big help! :) My job offer was something like "We're not letting you leave." Ha ha. But yeah, a lot has changed even in the last year as far as hiring.

Nope, I worked at MCV as a PCT during nursing school (VCU). I ended up staying at MCV :)

Inova had one RN 1 position open up in June, and I was told they had 650+ applications for it. Have you looked in DC, also? We just moved here, so I had no connections in the area, and my timing wasn't very good, since I missed the chance to start with the large number of new grad programs that started in July. When I called many hospitals last spring, many of them said they were anticipating Fall new grad programs, but the only one I found that actually had one was Washington Hospital Center, and I got a job there. :)

I understand your frustration. I just graduated in May and moved up here from NC and haven't found anything. I have put in numerous applications to most of the hospitals in DC in northern VA and even some in the baltimore area and I haven't gotten anything. I have called numerous nursing recruiters and they all tell me the same thing.... that they are not hiring new grads right now and that some will be hiring in october and september for february start dates. I work at a bank right now to make ends meet while I look for jobs. It is so frustrating that people say, "oh, you just graduated from nursing school? You should have no problem finding a job.... They need nurses everywhere" I WISH!!!

They are! Right now they just started a new grad BSN program, and I believe they have a few other openings as well. It's not quite as good as it was a few months ago when they finalized the budget for the year, but hopefully there will be more openings soon. Several of my classmates have yet to finds jobs :(

Ah, gotcha. Is MCV hiring new grads?
