self employed?

Is it possible to just be my own homecare business? As in by word of mouth or social media, get clients and provide post-op care, personal care, medication assistance, new mother/baby care etc? Is it all that I need to do is just start? Like a massage therapist or a clinical councelor? I have many years and many areas under my belt and was thinking it would be good to get into business for myself.

There are many regulations attached to a venture like this. You need to contact the College of Nurses in your province and find out what they are. Then you have to find out what provincial and municipal regulations are involved. Where do you apply for a business license? How do you apply for a tax number? Who do you talk to about for you and for any employees you may hire? What about WCB? Where do you get start-up capital? What documentation is required on a routine basis? There are LOTS of aspects that you need to research before you jump in.

This is definitely something I have been interested in as well. Feel free to post any information you find.
