howdy!!! i'm an older (48), working student in houston texas who's recently completed all the nursing pre-req's (gpa 3.5).. alas, tis' time to decide which bsn programme in the houston area to select from, yet which one has me . ultimately my goal is to also acquire an msn, perhaps even a dsn and remain active in nursing well into my "golden" years. any advice on this matter would be most appreciated. thank you and have a mery christmas!!! :santa1:

If you can do it, why not apply to all of them? Then you'll have a better idea of what your options are.

BSN programs in Houston are highly, highly competitive. Unless you have a 4.0 or very, very close then I would strongly advise someone to apply to all and pray for the best. Unfortunately, due to how competitive programs in the area are students don't have much choice. It's more about the school picking you. Take a look in the Student forum and the Texas forum and there is info. on how competitive local programs are. Some won't even look at you if you have less than a 3.7, some semesters 3.8 etc.
thank you labcat01 and seekingnur for responding to my question in a timely manner. i'm indeed employing a "shotgun" approach for the application process for such schools as twu, utmb, uthsc, and hbu's bsn programmes. i do hope the approval commitee(s) considers that my gpa of 3.5 was achieved while working 70+ hours per week and i've been an rrt with extensive, diverse clinical experience for thirty (30) years. let's hope for the best and include many prayers and restless nights. once again, thank you for taking the time to respond. :)
i'm also hoping for some extra consideration :)
best of luck to you!

wow. i sure hope they take that into account. the situation here is really shameful. good luck! it's not like your gpa isn't great, it is. it's especially fabulous considering how hard you've worked it's just that things are so competitive here. :0(
