Seeking tech job. Should I notify BON?

Published

I recall my original investigation letter stated that of i were to gain employment in nursing that I am to notify the board. Now that I know it is going to be atleast 3 months (9 more weeks of outpatient and then however long it takes for them to give me approval to test) I need to be gainfully employed. I've recently started applying for tech positions. Assuming I get my foot in the door somewhere should I expect to have to notify the board of my employment as a patient care tech? Thanks.

I don't think you need to notify the BON, however, I'm not sure, but I think it might be a problem for a new employer to hire you as a tech when you've got your RN. There was a post elsewhere on AN that discussed this issue, and I think the problem had to do with liability...what if something happened to a patient and you were there as a tech, but since you're also a nurse, should you have performed certain actions that any prudent nurse would have done.....except your job description is not as a nurse, so you didn't act, so what standards are you, and the facility, held to, in the case of some adverse event. Or what if you did something that any nurse would've reasonably been expected to do...but you're working as a tech, not a nurse, so you shouldn't have done it, (as a tech, but a nurse would have) so who's liable in that case if something goes wrong. Lol, I think I made all that more complicated than it needs to be!! I have no idea what exactly an example of such an adverse event might be, I'm just letting you know that apparently the poster's employer had stated that once she got her RN, she'd have to give up her tech job.

Thanks you. I completed LPN program in December and have never been licensed.
