This may seem like a silly question, but it came up in a conversation the other day and I'm just curious. My brother-in-law who has top security clearance (that he was recently granted) was telling me that there are different levels of security clearance for different jobs...something which I already knew. However, it got me to thinking, what level of security clearance to Nurse Corps Officers have? There are three levels correct? Can anyone explain the three levels and which level nurses fall under?

The basic levels of security clearance are Confidential, Secret, and Top Secret. There is also a level called Sensitive Compartmented Information. As officers, nurses would have to be able to obtain a minimum of Secret. But there are many positions that require higher security clearances due to the nature of the unit and mission. Thus, a nurse or a cook, who works in the inner area of say, NORAD, would probably need the minimum higher clearance that anyone working at NORAD would need. HTH

I feel the need to revisit this issue because I've been reading another forum for OTS and they have been talking about obtaining clearance and what a pain it is. Are people really going to come out and visit my work, family, and friends? I'm not concerned, I just want to let people know if that's the case....it would totally creep me out if someone just showed up on my doorstep asking questions! I think I owe it to my references to let them know if that may happen.
Granted, most of the people in the other forums are pilot hopefuls and some itel positions so this stringent process may not apply to nurses. Any AD nurses know the deal on this?

Just like the previous poster said... It all depends on the level of clearance you need for your job. As a nurse you just need a Secret clearance to get commissioned. The paper work is painful, but they don't go out and speak to your 3rd grade teacher, or get the dirt from your 2nd ex-wife.
The higher the clearance, the deeper and further back they go with the investigation.
