second try, repackaging application

Hi again,

My recruiter and the Nurse corps really did try hard to get me the waiver for Candidacy as an MSN student, all the way to the top.

Thankfully my recruiter has told me that the Army nurse corps does want me and that with my permission he is going to repackage my application to send it before the board again, this week, as a regular application.

This way, I think, I'd still get to take my oath and all yet, will not receive commission until graduation.

He is 99% sure this will work, yet we will see.

Back to crossing my fingers, thanks for listening!

Gen

That's awesome you have a proactive recruiter. I wish I had that!

Good luck and keep us updated!

Thank you guys.

I don't know how it will go but, last time I knew the following Monday. We will see if it gets in this Friday again and how long it takes before I hear word. "fingers crossed smiley"

Hello there again,

I don't see it working out.

Here is a list of the Army Nurse Corps requirements, please not they only recognize the BSN, ADN and diploma, not MSN entry, I think I am screwed out of a military career, (the AF and the Navy require the BSN to enter and do not recognzie the MSN without the pre qulifying BSN)

To qualify for an appointment as an Officer in the Army Nurse Corps, you must:

Meet the prescribed medical and moral standards for appointment as a commissioned Officer

Be a United States

Have an associate's degree in nursing or a three-year nursing diploma or a bachelor of science in nursing for Reserve; have a bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) from an accredited school of nursing for Active Duty

Have a valid, unrestricted RN license

Be 21-46 years of age

I'm sorry, I have been reading a lot of posts... Have you actually "graduated" from the program? If not, as strange as it may sound, could you apply for graduation as a BSN?

At CSUB, they used to allow seniors in the BSN program to sit for the NCLEX -many dropped out ~they stopped allowing. But my point is that early in the program you may meet the qualifications of the state for liscense.

With upper division complete, If you have not received your MSN, perhaps you may qualify for BSN and thus apply, graduate, then complete/acquire MSN. Just a thought.

Best of luck.

Brian

Hi Beanseye,

Thank you for your suggestion and your care.

My program is a pre-NCLEX one and they do not grant a BSN, (I asked if they would). The clincals to complete my program and to sit for NCLEX are not complete until graduation as it is.

However the Army told me that the Regular Army does recognize the MSN entry, just not for student candidacy status or for ROTC. In the meanwhile I just need to figure out how to manage to stay afloat financial wise until graduation and then, if lucky, to figure out how to keep paying my rent and bills from June 2007 until after the end of October OBC, (if accepted). That would make it from June 2007 to January 2008 basically without a salary!! As a new graduate I have no clue how to manage that?? Not only do I not have any money saved but, I will not be able to just go and grab a local job, knowing that I am plannign on OBC for October.

HEY!!I really do hope to get to go to OBC then.

The minute I know if the Army takes me through R.A. I will post! Hope to see you then.

p.s. if you see me, I am kinda tall, slim, from Chicago and have a kinda big leg tattoo-don't think there are many large serpent leg tattoos waived so you may figure out its me, say hiya!

Hello,

Thank you very much JaxiaKiley!

Me too, and thankfully there are possibilities.

Although now that I've gone through this initial 'rejection' I pretty much have come to grips that it just may not happen. I have started to consider my alternative plans.

I do not want to be a defeatests but, a realist and even though planning alternatives I am still hopeful.

Thank you,

Gen

p.s. either route that I go though i do plan on starting the online PhD program at Kansas University, not only do i want to do research, (its an interest for me outside of my clinical care interest) but, it will also hold my loans in deferrment a little longer until I can start earning a salary to pay them back too! So at least one thing is known

Gen,

To combat the debt monster, apply for any/all support you can find. At graduation time, I had about $16k in loans. I filled out my FAFSA in junior college and reapplied each year. I screwed up in that I could have spent a little time (relatively speaking) and probably netted a lot more in grants/scholarships. I was too lazy to write a short essay or letter of application. It can make a big difference.

I hope you do get your commission, but if it doesn't work out, there are multiple loan repayment programs. A Google search shows some.

Best of luck again. Everything happens for a reason.

Hey there Gen:

Bummer about your situation. Listen, what about applying to your local Veterans Administration Medical Center? (for a job). It would be a federal position, you would be caring for our Nation's Service men and women, plus they'ed understand when you need to take off for OBC. If you go the RC route, the VA understands your commitment(s). I found when seeking a nursing position that many hospitals would not "give me the time of day" when I applied for a job, once they saw I was USARNC.

Anyway, don't let your dream die. I do understand that you need to pay bills and put food on the table. I just hope things will go your way. My fingers and toes are crossed for you.

Thank you so much Athena,

I am vacillating between thoughts but, optimistic that something will work out. Not sure how to stretch my funds for so long, (you know how it is, as a student you have a negative cash flow only) but will see what happens.
