Second Interview Requested

Published

Hi Gang!

Seems like things are finally starting to turn around for me. I had my first interview with a community family health clinic this past Tuesday and I was called back for a second interview on tomorrow. The first time I met with the COO and CEO. This time around I will be interviewed by the Medical Director. Im nervous as heck as this will be the first time Ive been asked back for a second interview. I found this job through a close colleague whose been practicing for awhile now and the position wasn't even posted. They also requested 3 of my references to be contacted. Is that a good sign?! My other questions are:

1. If I am offered the job, how many patients should be seen per day in this type of setting?

2. What is a good salary offer for a new grad in this setting? I live in south Florida.

3. What type of questions should I be prepared to answer besides getting a quick scenario.

I have read all the guidelines for possible diseases and disorders I may come across in a community setting like DM, HTN, STDs, Asthma, dyslipidemia. Also I have to keep in mind about low-cost meds, treatments, etc since these people either have no insurance to having medicare/medicaid. I am already overwhelmed and I haven't even been offered the job yet! Any comments or feedback will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I don't work in primary care and will defer this answer to another poster. I think 2-4 pt's per hour is likely what would be expected in my area.

I have a peer who is a new grad and just accepted a position for a community primary care practice in NC. I can't speak to salary in FL but she was offered 82K base salary with 2K CEU stipend and possible productivity bonus. I think this is a competitive offer. My advice is to not accept a low offer and be prepared to negotiate. I frequently hear of new grads that accept low starting salaries to their disadvantage without ever trying to counter offer.

Questions I would ask: What type of orientation do they expect to give you. Do you have available support for questions? Have they utilized NPs in the past? Will you be under contract or a salaried employee? Time off for conferences and CME? What do they consider a productive work load? How long until you meet productivity goals?

They most important thing in my opinion for a new graduate is to find a job with a supportive medical team to nurture your growth. Good luck!

Well I had the interview today. I'm getting mixed feelings about this place. It seems as though they want me to hit the ground running on day one! The NPs are required to see 17 patients per day and the medical director asked me some weird questions like why the gap between me being certified and not finding an ARNP position. They only offer two weeks of orientation and then your on your own. I just don't know what to expect then he says at the end that he still has more candidates to interview and the position wasn't even posted. I was referred there by another ARNP who knew the HR personnel. They asked for my references and the CEO and COO requested I have a second interview. I don't know. I just couldn't get a take on it.

Hi Reddgirl,

Congratulations on getting your second interview. I am on the same boat as you (no job and one year since graduation). I haven't found the right job either. I guess after 16 years as an RN, I am sitting pretty comfortably job wise and financially. I haven't yet found a physician who can match my current salary and benefits. I have decided to volunteer at the local indigent health care clinic and they're happy to have me. Not only am I giving back to my community, but I'm also keeping my skills up while I wait for my dream job to come along. Is there anything like that in your area? I'd hate to see you unhappy with your first job.

Well I was offered a PD hospice house call visits with an opportunity for FT plus I was emailed earlier today for an IM interview. I'm currently not able to volunteer as my schedule is M-F at my current teaching job which I hate with a passion. I feel I'm loosing my skills as I have been out one year already. I'm more frustrated than anything else. The student loan debt was not worth it IMO. I had to go on Forbearance already. I do want a family medicine/IM position but I also am interested in Hospice as well. Florida stinks on so many levels and my husband doesn't want to relocate. I'm starting to think my ARNP cert was a mistake.

It is a community health clinic that gets grants from HRSA so they solely depend on gov't funds. I just didn't feel good about that second interview. It was a weird experience for me.
