Second Entry Programs With Winter or Spring Start Dates

Published

Hi everyone,

I have posted a few times on the other second entry nursing posts, I've applied to a few programs that start this Fall 2014. However, I may have some factors that prevent me from starting this Fall that I've just learned about, so I was wondering if anyone knows of any programs that start either in January or in May of 2015.

I know of the University of Calgary one (Jan) and University of Ottawa ones only. I did read that University of Alberta has a program that has previously been offered with both Fall and Winter start dates, but Winter 2015 start date has been cancelled.

I'm looking at programs all over Canada, please let me know if you know of any.

Anyone? So far I've applied to Calgary.

For anyone else interested, there are also Winter start dates for St.Francis-Xavier University and University of New Brunswick (although the latter has a preparation term that begins in the fall). Unfortunately for me, I don't meet the pre-reqs of these programs so only Calgary is an option for me so far.

A few of the programs in BC have January intakes, not sure about other provinces... Check out BCIT, Langara, Kwantlen and University of the Fraser Valley. They all have different admission requirements though. What would you be applying with? Have you taken any pre-requisite courses?

Thanks LiquoriceTea! I am interested in programs anywhere in Canada. I have a social sciences degree, so I have general social sciences credits, I am currently taking an English challenge credit. I have statistics credits and human anatomy and physiology (BIOL 235 from Athabasca). I will definitely start checking out those programs. I have tried doing research on possible programs across Canada, but there are a lot of programs that I do not know about. Thanks again!

Hi finger_crossed,

I've also applied to Calgary degree-holder's route. Heard anything back yet?

Hey there! No, not yet. When did you apply? My application was sent in July 5 but I'm not sure if they've received all of my transcripts yet. I've finished all the requirements, so there are no credits in progress. I hope this means I get an answer sooner rather than later, but I've heard that Calgary admissions is slow. Do you know if they do rolling admissions?

I submitted mine in early July as well. I am still taking one English course and will hopefully be able to send out the final transcript by mid-August. It seems U of C is doing rolling admissions as someone got an offer as early as September 20's, while others got theirs in late November.

Btw, are you applying to the degree-holder's route as well?

Yes, I'm applying to the degree-holder route. I also didn't have the english credit, but the academic advisor there approved me to take a Challenge for Credit course from Athabasca. I did that to save myself some time and money. I've finished the course but don't get have my grade. UCalgary said they would request the Athabasca transcript since it's an Albertan institute, but I'm guessing that hasn't happened yet.

Hopefully we hear back by September as well! I went through enough waiting when I applied to the programs this year. Unfortunately, I had to turn down my September 2014 offers because something personal came up, but I'm really hoping to start in January at UCalgary!

Yep, hopefully we can get early offers! I heard the admission decision is solely based on most recent 30-credit gpa. Is it true? Do you know what the class size is?

I've heard it's about 80 students, and that last year's GPA cut off was 3.30.
