Second career in military?

Published

I am ADN RN and thinking before I cross the age requirement, I want to look into military nursing as a boost to retirement funds when the time comes. Right now I know absolutely nothing about it so any input would be helpful. So far I'm thinking reserves, any branch. Any info on retirement bennies? How long to serve to receive how much?

Hello Amrak,

Allnurses has a forum just for Military & VA nurses. You might want to repost your question there, (I am looking here in the medical surgical forum because I am a new Army nurse as a 66H which means medical surgical nurse).

I do know that the only service that accepts an Associates is the Army reserves and that the age for nurses is up to age 46 with an age waiver over 40. I am just 41. The age waiver for nurses with BSN entry in Air Force is also 46, Navy is 44 with age waiver over 40 as well.

Welcome and hope to read you in the Military forum, although, if your reasons for joining the military are benefits only then you may not feel a good fit. Possibly it is the benefits that may be the driving force yet, I doubt that anyone joins the Military without a sense of duty, pride, and so forth as well. :)

Gen-studying for my July 18th NCLEX!!!
