Seattle area internships for students

U.S.A. Washington

I live just south of Seattle during the summers and wanted to know if any of you know of a hospital that provides paid internships for nursing students getting their BSN.

I just finished applying for a Nurse Tech Program at Virginia Mason in Seattle- go to their website. It's an 8 week paid program; you need to have a certain amount of nursing school. Hope this helps. Deadline is March 1st, 2007 for applying though, so you'll have to hurry!

Does Harborview or Swedish offer anything like this as well?

I don't think so...not for just the summer anyway. I heard they will hire you as a nurse tech but only if you work during the school year as well. Harborview and Swedish look like they have fantastic new grad residency programs but nothing for summertime internship-stuff. Have you checked Valley Med. in Renton? I heard from several nurses at Virginia Mason that VM is an excellent place to learn as the nurses there are expected to teach and supposedly enjoy it. I'll believe it when I see it- most nurses have that "EAT THEM, they're NEW" attitude, which makes for an exceptionally pleasant (note sarcasm) day. :)

Got the Virginia Mason one, Pulmonary Medicine/Thoracic Surgery.

I am going to be there too- I will be working on the Acute Care of the Elderly unit- should be interesting! :) I'm excited!! :lol2:

Was it a very competitive internship to get? Sure didnt seem that way, and nobody at ICN knew about it besides me, not even the professors.

It's only the second year that this program has been offered- it's still pretty new- so I don't think many people know about it. I only knew about it because I have family friends who have worked there. It didn't seem very competitive to me. However, I've heard great things about the hospital itself...have you?

I've heard excellent things about it.

No wonder not that many people knew about it, I imagine it will get much more competitive as people find out about it.

I agree- what school do you go to? I'm in Yakima at WSU-ICN...3rd semester.

Spokane ICN, 2nd semester.

hey spottybug, i am in the yakima WSU ICN program too -- will be starting my third semester this fall. You'll be in your fourth semester ---SOOOO EXCITING TO BE ALMOST FINISHED!! Did you do nurse tech work after your second semester? Are you working now? If so where? Are you living in Yakima only for school - - originally from west of Snoqualmie? Just curious as I feel like I live in the middle of nowhere (Cle Elum) where finding nursing employment will require quite a commute which ever direction I go (dont want E-burg). When did you apply for the VM residency? I am feeling fragmented about what to do after completion of program regarding work -- am considering just continuing for masters (goal is PMHNP) -- though not sure about work availability ----- feel like I am having a summer melt down!!!!!
