Hi all,
I have a question regarding the application for the nursing program. Well, i am planning to apply for the nursing program for fall 2009 but the thing is that I will be a transfer student. The school website said that you have to be accepted to SDSU before you apply to the nursing program. Does that mean that I have to wait for me to get accept BEFORE I turn in the application for the nursing program?? Can't I turn it in at the same time?
I know that the application for school itself opens the same date as the nursing school application therefore would there be enough time for me to even apply for the nursing school?? The deadline for the nursing school applicaiton is November 30th.
Can anybody help me please?
Thanks!

Hi, I am a transfer student and will be starting at SDSU's Fall '08 nursing program in September.
Yes, you most definitely should apply at the same time, otherwise you would miss the application deadline for the program before hearing about your admission status to the university.
In my application process, both applications were due between Oct and Nov, and I sent both applications at the same time. You can still send in your application for the nursing program even if you don't know yet if you are accepted to the university. It is best to just send in both applications and get them out of the way. You will have to send supplemental material later and by then you should know if you were accepted into the university.
They didn't notify me that I was accepted to the program until just a few weeks ago, while I found out I was accepted into the university by February. I would guess that they hold on to all of the applications until they are notified of who is accepted to the university, and throw out the ones who were not accepted (obviously those students realize that they won't be accepted to the program in advance since they didn't get accepted to the university). They probably don't even look through the applications until they get notification of university admission status.
Don't worry about it too much, if you have a high enough GPA to get into the program, you should have absolutely no trouble getting into the university. Just get your applications in before the deadlines.
Let me know if you have any more questions. Good luck!
Thank you so much for the response. I really appreciate it! Congratulation on your acceptance!!! I bet you are very excited for that. I have a couple more questions for you so hope you don't mind me asking.
May I ask what your total point is? What is the cut off point? I heard that SDSU nursing program is very competitive!! I am shooting for 68 so hopefully that's enough!! I have 3.7-3.8 overall GPA. Also I don't really know what to expect for TEAS test. Do you know how SDSU grade them?
Thank you so much again for all your help.
I'm not sure what the cutoff point is, but I think they just start from the highest points applied, and go down from there. 68 (out of 77) looks pretty good, and your GPA looks good too. If you have more classes to take, I would suggest trying to get your GPA higher in the 3.8 range.
They give you points based on your TEAS score. Based on looking at my score, it looks like they minus one to two points every 5% lowered from your score (out of a total of 15 points). So it really isn't too bad.
I'm sorry I'm not too much help with this, I don't know much about their process. Good luck!

hey... Im currently a 4th semester (of the old 6 semester program) student at state, and I can tell you that you will most likely get in with 68 points. Although the requirements have changed a lot since I applied, I think 67 was the cutoff. Not to mention, Im pretty sure they let 130 students in now instead of the previous 90, so much better odds...
ps. You can always apply in the spring if you dont get in in the fall. Ive heard its easier to get in in the spring vs. the fall.
Anyways, Good luck!
one more thing... SDSU doesnt look at overall GPA, just GPA for the prereqs. Unless they have changed that too...

SDSU is so impacted that they are not accepting students in the spring. This is new I hear. My son attends SDSU and has a friend who wanted to start in Spring. :)
you're right, SDSU does not accept spring applicants, however the school of nursing admits a class in both the fall and spring semesters.
